Trevor Barker Beach Oval

The Oval has a high-quality Santa Ana Couch playing surface.

During the winter months, the playing hours increase and the Santa Ana couch becomes thin, especially in the areas of most use, for example the goal squares and centre bounce.

In winter the Santa Ana couch is slow to recover, and in some instances it is lost, resulting in ‘scalloped’ ground which can become unstable and uneven. Such ground conditions can lead to injury and field closures.

XtraGrass was installed in the goal square at the southern end of the Oval.

This end receives the greatest amount of use from the players and public as it is closest to the carpark.

After a period of use, the XtraGrass fibres are protecting the Santa Ana couch, and they have maintained a safe, stable playing surface that can be used year-round.
